Hip Pain That Keeps You on the Sidelines

Ignoring hip pain doesn't make it go away — it makes it worse. Without the right care, what starts as discomfort can become a chronic injury that sidelines you from the sport and life you love.

Pushing Through the Pain

Generic PT That Misses the Mark

Losing Ground on Your Goals

Training through hip pain without a proper diagnosis often worsens the underlying issue — whether it's FAI, a labral tear, or a hip flexor strain. More miles, more damage.

Cookie-cutter programs treat symptoms, not causes. Without a biomechanical assessment, your hip will keep breaking down — and your performance will plateau or decline.

Every week away from training is fitness lost and confidence shaken. Without a clear return-to-sport plan, athletes risk reinjury and months of frustrating setbacks.

Tenafly's Home for Hip Pain Physical Therapy

At Blue Iron Physio, we don't guess — we assess. Using force plate testing, movement screens, and hands-on manual therapy, we find the root cause of your hip pain and build a customized plan to get you back to full performance. Every session is one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

✓ One-on-one care with a Doctor of PT — every session, no exceptions

✓ Data-driven assessments using ForceDecks force plates and movement screens

"After a few months of training with Brendan, the results have been transformative. Thanks to his unique ability to identify, and then properly train, root cause weaknesses and imbalances, I am back doing push-ups, pull-ups, weighted squats, shoulder press, and other weightlifting activities I honestly thought I would never be able to do again."

"I came to Blue Iron because I am training for a half marathon and I have been experiencing bilateral knee pain, limiting my ability to complete distance runs. I worked with Kat, who was knowledgeable, supportive and professional during my time here. She utilized a 3D run analysis, that allowed us to identify deficits in my form. This lead to us implementing strategies and cues that now have allowed me to run pain free and continue on my journey of completing my half marathon. Kat has also provided me with a plethora of strengthening exercises to assist with reducing pain and improving my muscle imbalances. I would recommend this facility for anyone seeking physical therapy services."

Hip Pain PT — Your Questions Answered

Do I need a referral to start hip pain physical therapy at Blue Iron Physio?

In most cases, no. New Jersey is a direct-access state, which means you can begin physical therapy without a physician's referral. We can evaluate your hip, begin treatment, and coordinate with your doctor if needed — getting you started faster.

What does a first visit for hip pain look like?

Your initial evaluation includes a comprehensive movement screen, biomechanical assessment, and a hands-on exam to identify the root cause of your hip pain. We'll discuss your goals, sport, and history — and leave you with a clear picture of what's causing your pain and how we'll fix it.

Do you use any special technology to assess hip injuries?

Yes. We use ForceDecks dual force plate testing to measure strength output and left-right asymmetries, and movement screens to assess hip mobility, stability, and mechanics. For runners, we offer 3D gait analysis using the Helix System to evaluate hip loading patterns during running.

How long does it typically take to recover from hip pain or a hip injury?

Recovery timelines vary based on diagnosis, severity, and your activity level. Conditions like hip flexor strains may resolve in 4–8 weeks with PT, while hip impingement (FAI) or post-labrum surgery rehab may take 3–6 months. Your therapist will give you a realistic, data-driven timeline at your evaluation.

Do you treat athletes of all ages and skill levels?

Absolutely. We work with elite, competitive, and recreational athletes of all ages — from youth soccer and lacrosse players to masters runners and weekend warriors. Our pediatric PT services and sports performance training mean we can support the whole athlete, at every stage.

What are your hours and how do I book an appointment?

We're open Monday through Thursday 8 AM–7:30 PM and Friday 8 AM–4:30 PM. Call us at (201) 431-0828 or visit blueironphysio.com to book online. Still have questions? Contact us — we're happy to help.
